Passive Fear: Alternative to Flight or Fight
When Frightened Animals Hide

This was my first book and is a nonfiction science book about my thirty years of research using radio telemetry to study the heart rate response of wild animals to fear.  I have put physiological telemetry transmitters on more species of wild animals than anyone in the world.  I was the first to discover that when wild animals are frightened and have a safe hiding place, they often hide instead of running away.  While hiding they slow their heart and respiration rates.  This was in sharp contrast with the well known “fight or flight” response.

This passive fear response increased our understanding of the importance of hiding for many species of wild animals.  In addition, my studies increased our understanding of Sudden Infant Death syndrome (SIDS) and its application has saved untold number of babies at risk for SIDS. This book was published by iUniverse in 2006 and is available at www.iuniverse.com  or online from www.Amazon.com. There are also several excellent reviews at Amazon.  The cost for the hardback book is $23.95 and the paperback version is $13.95.
